Henry Hayman was born about 1634 in England. He immigrated to Virginia and settled in Maryland in 1666. His wife's name was Ellinor. They had six sons. Henry died in 1685. His sons' families lived on the Eastern shore of Maryland until 1800. Descendants and relatives lived in Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Nebraska and elsewhere.

An important historical and genealogical compilation, it consists of an alphabetical index of over 25,000 settlers, virtually all of the immigrants to Maryland for its first fifty years. In addition to the immigrants' full names, there are given the approximate date of emigration, the basis of the claim for land, residence, sometimes the family relationship or status, and a reference to the source of the information.
