Description
"From the highest mountains to the deepest oceans, Planet Earth illuminates the wonders of our astonishing world like never before. It s a celebration of the spectacular diversity of our planet, revealing the vast as well as the intimate as only high definition cinematography can."--Container.
Description
From pole to pole: Looks at our planet as a whole and considers the key factors that have shaped its natural history. The lives of animals and plants are dominated by the sun and fresh water which trigger seasonal journeys. In the Arctic spring, a mother polar bear and cubs emerge from their winter den. They have just two weeks to cross the frozen sea before it melts and they become stranded. Further south, time-lapse cameras capture the annual transformation created by the Okavango floods in Botswana.
Description
Mountains: This program starts with the birth of a mountain at one of the lowest places on Earth and ends at the summit of Everest. Features one of Earth's rarest phenomena, a lava lake that has been erupting for over 100 years. The same forces built the Simian Mountains where troops of gelada baboons live, nearly a thousand strong. In the Rockies, grizzlies build winter dens inside avalanche-prone slopes. Among other mountain-dwelling animals, also shows a snow leopard hunting on the Pakistan peaks, a world first. Also observes a Giant panda and cub in China, in the Himalayas.
Description
Fresh water: Fresh water defines the distribution of life on land. This program follows the descent of rivers from their mountain sources to the sea. Flies inside the Grand Canyon, and explores the wildlife in the world's deepest lake. Among other footage, captures: a showdown between smooth-coated otters and mugger crocodiles; deep-diving long tailed macaque monkeys; massive flocks of snow geese on the wing; and, a piranha frenzy in the world's largest wetland.
